Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Tonie Box?

A toniebox is just like a walkman or discman but it has a speaker at the front and is designed for little ones ages 3+.

It also has a headphone jack so you can plug in some headphones for some peace and quiet.

What is a Tonie?

Tonies are hand-painted, magnetic characters that sit on top of the tonie box and play different audio depending on the tonie.

Some play music, while other read audio book and for the bigger kids we have come that tell jokes or educational ones that teach them about the world we live in.

What is the #1 Question I get asked about the Toniebox

Will Tonies from overseas work with my Australian Toniebox? Or will Australian Tonies work on a Toniebox that I buy from Overseas?

Yes All tonies will work on any Toniebox no matter where it was originally purchased from.

What is the difference between a creative tonie and a content tonie?

A Creative tonie, is blank it has no content on it. SO before you can use a content tonie you will need to upload content onto it before it will play.

A Content tonie comes pre loaded with content already on them

Benefits and Disadvantages of a Creative-Tonie:

Benefits

  • Personalization; Creative Tonies allow you to upload your own audio content, such as personalized messages, stories, or songs.
    • This customization adds a special and personal touch to the Toniebox experience, making it more relevant and meaningful to the child.
    • You have full control over the content on a Creative-Tonie, allowing you to tailor it to suit your child's interests and developmental stage.
  • Saves Money
    • As you are able to change the content whenever you please without have to pay for new tonies.
  • Educational Tool
    • As you can upload your own content to it you can use it to reenforce learning activities they are currently working on in school - Phonics numbers etc
  • Family Involvement
    • Creative-Tonies allow family members, friends and loved ones to become part of your children's life with record messages or stories that children can listen to.
I love this concept for those who have family overseas or parents who travel regularly.

Disadvantages

  • Requires effort to create and upload content, which may take time and planning compared to simply purchasing pre-loaded content Tonies.
  • Limited to the content you create or have access to.
  • The quality of the content depends on what is recorded or uploaded
  • Requires family members to actively participate in creating and uploading content, which may not always be feasible or convenient.

Benefits and Disadvantages of a Content Tonie:

Benefits

  • The benefit of buying a content tonies is that there is minimal effort for you to be able to use the tonie. Just pop them on your box while you are at home connected to your wifi so that the toniebox can download the content from the tonie on to the box Once its done it will make a ping sound and then you will be able to play  your tonie on your box no matter where you are.
  • Professionally produced stories, songs, or educational content that are ready to play immediately.
  • Wide selection of themes and genres, catering to different age groups, interests, and educational needs. Something for every child to enjoy! Even mum and dad 😉

Disadvantages

  • The content cant be changed. So if your little one doesn't like the tonie or out grows the content you aren't able to change it so you will need to buy new tonies.
  • The variety is limited compared to the endless possibilities of customized content on a Creative-Tonie.
  • Lack of control over the content’s specifics; you can't customize or change the content that is pre-loaded onto a content Tonie. So if there is a single track on a content tonie you dont want your child listening to you cant remove it
  • Some content tonies only run for as little as 15mins which can become annoying for mum and dad to listen to on repeat if your little one decides they want to listen to it on repeat 😆

Best age to get a Tonie Box

In my honest opinion the best age to get your child a tonie box is as soon as they are born. Here are my reasons why

Saves you Money - Instead of buying a night light and white noise machine. Put a Toniebox on your baby shower gift list with the Nap Time - White noise tonie, and or the Sheep night light (which sounds like my favourite day spa)

Get more use out  of your toy/investment - Not only will you save money on a white noise machine but you also get even more use/ time out of your toniebox before our little one will out grow it.

Baby development - I'm no medical expert and Im not even sure I believe this one but lets just go with it cause surely its not causing harm. Have you ever heard the saying Classical music can help in the development of new born babies and toddlers. Well guess what? There is a number of classical music tonies like The Maestro - who plays Classical music

Why I bought a toniebox for my 1yo

Encouraging her interests - From 6 months my daughter loved music and dancing. Her little face would light up when we put music on and would dance around. So following her lead I started looking for audio players that were designed for little ones and would allow her to take more control of her environment.

Ease of Independence - By 10 months my daughter was able to communicate to me if she wanted music when asked. However Some days I would forget to ask. So finding a tonie that was easy and simple enough for her to be able to use on her own was important to me.

Visually stimulating - There are a number of audio boxes on the market that are very similar. I chose tonies because the figurines are visually stimulating and attractive for a little one to be drawn to and pip their curiosity.

Cross/ multi play toys - I love the fact that tonies figurines are able to be used not only on the box but just as figurines for other play. Like in your dolls house, farms, with your building blocks etc

Baby development - I'm no medical expert and Im not even sure I believe this one but lets just go with it cause surely its not causing harm. My Favourite Tonie

I cant just pick 1!!! lol But 1 will narrow it down to 2 for you.

My favourite tonie for my daughter is the counting Fox. I love this tonie because not only is he just a fun music tonie that any kid could bop along to, he has such great educational value. He has approximately 24 tracks with 44mins of nursery rhymes all with some kind of number reference to them. But the best part is that he has 6 tracks of the exact same song but sung in 6 different languages.  Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, Arabic & Tagalog.

My Personal Favourite Tonie is the Sheep Night Light. I love this tonie because the tracks are just so peaceful that I think literally anyone no matter how stressed you were would feel better.  It reminds me of my favourite day spa which mean I could play it all day if my daughter let me. Occasionally during her naps once she is asleep Ill take the toniebox out to my desk so I can listen to it while I'm working. 😆 Should probably buy myself my own box and sheepy night light... Do you think I can claim it as a tax deduction if I use it while I'm working??? hehehe
